Please excuse my hideousness, it was a long day.
I'm so hardcore I donated out of both arms!
Well, not really... but kind of.
So Monday night Jesse and I decided to go give blood. I've given blood before, and have only had one bad, queasy experience. I was feeling pretty good and we went to Subway so I could eat a feast beforehand. So we were all set.
Once there, they asked which arm I prefer. Left, of course. However, I have tiny veins and it is near impossible to locate a good vein in my left arm, so they went for the right one. After they stuck it in, the blood was really slow. So they adjusted the needle. And adjusted it again. And one more time. (PAIN)
They said it wasn't going to work. Then they asked if I wanted to give the left arm a try. I said sure. I still wanted to be charitable. So they used the blood pressure pumpy thingy instead of just tying something around my arm to make sure they could find a vein. The first try was successful and it didn't take long for me to fill up a bag! Plus the small amount they took from my right arm...
So we went home and I was a little woozy, but nothing too crazy. We watched the Swan Princess and ate some sugar. Then about four hours after the donation I got in the shower. Halfway into the shower I suddenly felt a rush of nausea/dizziness/flashing white lights and thought I was going to throw up and pass out at the same time. I quickly left the shower and laid down until I felt better.
Next day: woke up feeling really weak and slightly nauseous. Couldn't really eat much. My darn right arm hurt more than before, and it's even worse now as I'm writing this!! I told my managers at Red Elephant that I couldn't carry a big tray and that they shouldn't get mad when they see that I'm not running food.
Anywho, it was quite an experience. Very strange. But I did get my Walmart gift card as promised, and they even threw in a t-shirt since I was poked and prodded so darn much! Hopefully my arm will stop hurting so I can lift stuff and sleep on my right side, which is my favorite way to sleep!
Sad! You try to do a good thing and look what happens! I hope that Wally world gift card was for a bundle! ;0)
