Sewing is not like riding a bike...

So I recently decided that I want to start sewing.  I borrowed my mom's sewing machine and got some fabric.  How hard could it be?  I took Home Ec in 7th grade.  I mean, all you do is push some fabric along and voila, you have a cute new pillow case, etc.!

FALSE!  Sewing is super hard.  And it doesn't just come back to you after 11 years of not using a sewing machine.

Turns out, that darn machine is super hard to thread.  My mom showed me how a few days ago, but I guess I don't remember exactly all the steps.  And it turns out I'm not so good at the sewing part, either.  I can't seem to sew a straight line.  It looks like those super cute dress patterns are gonna have to wait a long time while I get some sewing lessons from my mom, Lindy, and anyone else who wants to help me!

  1. You'll get the hang of it after awhile... and hey, non straight lines can give character!

  2. Just use a zig-zag stitch on most things. It will give it a cute little something-something and no one will know when you haven't sewn a straight line :) You'll get the hang out it. I does take some practice though :)

  3. Haha, oh yes, the same thing happened to me when I first started up again! I thought I could "throw together" this great purse... I was wrong :) I think threading sewing machines, especially bobbins, are probably the worst part :) I am sure that before you know it you will have greatly surpassed your previous skill without even realizing it :) Have fun!
