Pow Wow

So, a while back Freya told me that Nick Offerman was coming for FSU homecoming this year.  I mentioned it to Jesse, and then forgot about it.  He decided to surprise me with a date night.  I figured it out before we went, but I kept it to myself because I love surprises!  Anyway, we were both super excited.

We got really lucky when we got there and somehow got way up in the line.  We got really good seats. We had to wait a while for everything to start, but the seats were worth it.

I wasn't really looking forward to all the homecoming school spirit stuff, but I actually loved it!  I forgot how much I love college marching bands.  And the fight song.  And I loved all the dance teams, cheerleaders, and the circus.  And the a capella groups.  I loved them!  I even enjoyed all the sports montages they showed.  The only part I didn't care so much about was the homecoming court.  But it was still cool, I guess.

Oh, and they had a dude play The Star Spangled Banner on electric guitar.  It was kind of the guitar equivalent of Beyonce singing it, but I liked it.

Unfortunately my pictures are crap because of the stage lighting, but here are a few anyway...

Waiting for it to start.
Marching Chiefs!
Bobby Bowden.
Glowing people!  I mean cheerleaders.
Anyway, after all the homecoming shenanigans, we still had to wait another 20 minutes for Retta.  We weren't expecting much from her.  She was okay.  We laughed a bit.

Then Nick Offerman started.  We were so excited.  He started strong.  It was funny.  Then after a while, it wasn't funny anymore.  We were expecting some language and some dirty jokes.  Unfortunately, that's just how it goes these days.  But it was just over the top.  We're not prudes or anything, but after he spent more than 30 minutes trashing the Bible and religion, rambling and ranting about controversial political issues that I won't go into, and basically just repeating himself over and over again (I think he may have been a little drunk), we had kind of had it.  Also, at 11:00 he still wasn't finished with point 2 of 10.  And we're old people now.

A lot of people started leaving when he started going on about how he thinks the Bible is horrible, etc.  We stuck it out for a bit, thinking he would move on.  But he didn't.  And he was swearing more and more, and just saying a lot of really gross, vulgar stuff.  So Jesse asked me if I wanted to go and we left. We probably should've left sooner, but like I said, we were hoping he would move on.  By the time we left, there were tons of empty seats.

I feel like neither of them really knew their audience well, which is weird, because he came to FSU last year and I'm pretty sure gave the same 10 tips on being a good person or something.  I'm sure the ranting about religion and politics act works great in LA, but we're in the Bible Belt, so spending a good 30 minutes trashing the Bible probably isn't the best idea.  It's fine if other people have different opinions and share those opinions, but to drag it out isn't the best idea.  Tell a few jokes and move on.

I think Ron Swanson should just stick to TV acting.

Overall, I was disappointed.  But, I really did enjoy all the homecoming school spirit, and it really got me excited and missing college.  Go Noles!

  1. That's disappointing. But at least you enjoyed the school spirit stuff! I guess since he was not being Ron Swanson then he felt he could be just him and say what his real feelings are. Oh well... I'm happy you guys had a fun date night though =)

  3. How fun!! That's such a good idea for a date night. Too bad Offerman had to mess it up with politics/religious talk. Not the time/place for sure!

But man, he nailed it as Ron Swanson. I was rewatching some parks and rec the other day, and he makes me laugh so hard every time! And when he giggles! Ah, Ron Swanson.
